Electrocardiogram (ECG)
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a fundamental diagnostic test that records the electrical impulses driving heart contraction. Careful interpretation reveals conduction abnormalities, arrhythmias, signs of reduced blood flow (ischemia), and prior heart damage.
What to Expect
Quick, completely painless, and safe. Electrodes are placed on your chest, wrists, and ankles, and recordings are completed within minutes.
How to Prepare
No fasting or special preparation is required. Avoid lotions or oils on your chest on the day of the test so the electrodes adhere properly.
Aftercare
There is no recovery time—you can return to normal activity immediately. Results are usually interpreted and explained during the same visit.
